Ichung’wah responds to Gachagua’s threat of making Kihika one-term governor

By , August 3, 2025

Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for his recent remarks suggesting that Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika would only serve one term.

Speaking during an event in Nakuru on Sunday, August 3, 2025, Ichung’wah questioned why Gachagua, while abroad, would make such claims, arguing that it is the people of Nakuru who will decide who becomes their governor and not any individual.

He emphasised that no leader should speak with arrogance or make declarations about who will or will not be re-elected.

He further stated that the decision on whether any leader, including Kihika, will serve a second term rests solely on the electorate and will be based on the leader’s performance and service delivery, not the opinions or political pressure from others.

Ichung’wah urged leaders to respect the will of the people, stressing that voters have the final say in determining the political future of their leaders.

Gachagua’s ealier remarks

This comes days after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua publicly declared that Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika should serve only one term, urging Nakuru residents to vote her out in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in the USA, Gachagua criticised Kihika’s leadership and suggested that her husband, Sam Mburu, was improperly influencing local affairs. In response, Kihika dismissed Gachagua’s remarks as reckless and politically motivated, accusing him of trying to undermine her leadership and manipulate Nakuru’s voters.

These remarks by Gachagua directed against Nakuru Governor and her family were not taken lightly by most leaders, especially those allied to Kenya Kwanza.

Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi came out after these remarks by the former deputy president, defending the spouse of the governor, saying that he is an astute businessman, with him carrying out business activities with successive regimes from Kibaki to Ruto
