‘I have appended my signature’ – Kimani Ichung’wah confirms plans to impeach Gachagua
Kikuyu MP and leader of the majority party in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah has confirmed that there is a motion in place to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking on Sunday, September 29, 2024, Inchung’wah also confirmed that he had appended his signature on the motion to impeach the second in command.
“It is true, I can confirm that there is an impeachment motion against the deputy president and as the member of parliament for Kikuyu I have appended my signature to it and I will support it,” he stated.
According to Ichung’wah, Gachagua has been sabotaging the government, making it hard for the government to fulfil the promises it made during campaigns.
“It is not tenable, it is not feasible that for another three years, it will be politics. I do not believe in the politics of ethnicity. I do not believe in the politics of sabotaging and undermining a government that we formed,” Ichung’wah stated.
“We are being told to gather as Kikuyus and leave the government and look for Kalonzo, Wajackoya and Eugene and form another government for 2027.”
Wetang’ula goes after Gachagua
Ichung’wah joins National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula who has thrown his weight behind the ouster of Gachagua.
Speaking during a church service at Wamunyu Catholic Church in Machakos County on Sunday, September 29, 2024, Wetang’ula backed leaders accusing DP Gachagua of tribalism saying those who disrupt the country’s peace and unity must be removed regardless of the position they hold.
“Tunataka tue na viongozi ambao wanajua the limit where to go, what to say, where to say and the impact, nawaomba wakenya haswa viongozi, mpunguze siasa ya kukata kata nchi yetu na kabila au religion, kwa sababu katiba yetu inasema every Kenyan has a right to live on property and enjoy peace anywhere and everywhere in this country,” he said.
“Lazima tujue our diversity is the source of strength na ndio tutaishi, kama kuna mtu yeyote anataka kuvuruga amani ya nchi atolewe, because we want peace from everybody.”
The latest comes amid a looming impeachment motion against DP Gachagua who is being accused of abusing office.
