Haitian Prime Minister praises Kenyan MSS contingent for their dedication in addressing Haiti’s security challenges
Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé has praised the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) troops led by Kenya for their dedication and sacrifice in addressing Haiti’s security challenges.
Speaking on Thursday, December 12, 2024, when he joined the Kenyan MSS Contingent at LSA 2 to commemorate Kenya’s 61st Jamhuri Day celebrations, said that the Kenyan contingent’s presence in Haiti had inspired hope for the country’s future adding that the MSS personnel’s determination and strong collaboration with the Haitian National Police (HNP) has a contribution to Haiti’s quest for stability and progress.
In addition, the Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to the Haitian people, emphasizing that their current struggles can be overcome, just as their forefathers overcame past adversities.
On his part, MSS Force Commander SAIG Godfrey Otunge reiterated the MSS mission’s unwavering support for the HNP in combating gang violence and fostering a safe environment for democratic elections.
He emphasized the harmonious and productive relationship between the MSS and HNP, dismissing any propaganda meant to derail the mission.
MSS officers’ latest achievement
On Wednesday, November 27, 2024, MSS in collaboration with the HNP disclosed that they have reopened the Liancourt Police Station, which has been shut for the last five years due to gang aggression.
In a statement, MSS said the station was reopened following continuous day and night patrols in key areas, including Carrefour Paye, Route Coloniale, Bois Dutre Jette, Fosse Cheval, Allée Nan Parent, Allée Père Josephat, Villard, L’Estère, and Liancourt.
“The MSS reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the Haitian population, not only in restoring normalcy in Port-au-Prince but also in Pont-Sonde. While focused and purposeful security operations continued in Port-au-Prince, significant patrols and engagements were also carried out in Pont-Sonde,” the statement read in part.
“The MSS and the Haitian National Police (HNP) conducted continuous day and night patrols in key areas, including Carrefour Paye, Route Coloniale, Bois Dutre Jette, Fosse Cheval, Allée Nan Parent, Allée Père Josephat, Villard, L’Estère, and Liancourt.”
Apart from reopening a police station, the mission, led by Kenyan police officers, on November 26, stated that another school is experiencing reopening, adding that to ensure uninterrupted training for recruits in the security forces, they have maintained their presence at the police academy.
“Similarly, another school along Avenue Mais Gate experienced a peaceful reopening under MSSM and HNP’s continued presence. In addition, MSSM and HNP have maintained their presence at the Police Academy to ensure uninterrupted training for recruits. High-level strategic meetings between senior MSSM and HNP officials are ongoing to strengthen security at the academy and pacify nearby neighbourhoods such as Vif Mitchel.
“By prioritizing the safety and education of Haiti’s youth, MSSM and HNP reaffirm their commitment to restoring stability and hope in the nation,” the statement read in part.
