Govt to roll out new training model for TVETs
Ministry of Education Julius Migos Ogamba has announced that the government will equip the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates with practical skills in the job market.
Speaking while presiding over the 2nd Graduation Ceremony of Nyandarua National Polytechnic in Nyandarua County, on Friday, September 19, 2025, the CS said the new initiative will adequately prepare the target graduates for the world of work after school.
”The Ministry of Education is rolling out Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) and Dual Training approaches. These are designed to ensure that graduates acquire the requisite practical skills and that their training aligns with industry needs,” Ogamba said.
Friday’s event was a historic occasion, as the graduates constituted the pioneer CBET cohort since the institution was elevated to a National Polytechnic in 2020.
The Cabinet Secretary spoke after he accompanied vice-chancellors of public universities to State House, Nairobi, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, where they presented to President William Ruto a set of proposals to assure sectoral sustainability.

CS Migos praises private universities
Recently, CS Ogamba hailed the role played by the private universities in providing and enhancing quality education. He spoke while hosting the vice-chancellor of Umma University, Dr. Halima Saadi Abdillahi, at his Jogoo House B offices for a briefing on various initiatives that the institution is implementing to expand infrastructure and academic programmes for greater access and quality of its offerings.
”Private universities play an important role in enhancing access to quality education and training. They complement the government’s investment in higher education to ensure that the youth are equipped with relevant knowledge and skills for life in the 21st Century,” Julius Migos said.

Meanwhile, after meeting with the incoming and outgoing members of the Board of Management of Machakos Teachers Training College, led by the chair, Prof. Francis Mathookos, the CS also acknowledged the importance of the TTC institutions in the implementation of the Competency-Based Education.
”Teacher Training Colleges play a critical role in preparing teachers to effectively support the roll out of Competency-Based Education. These colleges have been instrumental in ensuring that teachers are adequately trained and retooled to meet the demands of the new system,” he said on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
