Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that the government is set to issue animal feed to counties in the northern Kenya region in a bid to counter the effects of drought in the area.

Speaking in Mandera County during the Nyota fund disbursement programme on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Kindiki has noted that the government is aware of the adverse drought affecting the northern counties and is in the process of releasing animal feeds to be distributed to the residents to safeguard livestock that has been heavily affected by the situation.

“There is a problem of drought in this area, and you have instructed me, together with the CSs and the PSs, to sort the issue. We have brought relief food, and it is in the sub-county government offices.

“If not enough, we will add. You have also released money for animal feed, and from yesterday, trucks of animal feed have started streaming in. Between today and tomorrow morning, there shall be enough animal feed for the animals,” Kindiki noted.
