Governor Barasa’s tough warning to ‘saboteur’ county staff
Hundreds of Kakamega county government workers have been put on notice over their alleged association with Governor Fernandes Barasa perceived political opponents.
The affected workers mainly from the ward and community area administration received the show cause notices from the county human resource officer last week after they agreed to attend a pre-Christmas invite party from Senator Boni Khalwale at his Malinya rural home In Ikolomani sub county.
In the notices seen by the People Daily, the officers are accused of involving in politics, engaging in early political campaigns against the governor in breach of the civil service code of conduct and undermining the governors development agenda.
Barasa alluded to the show cause notices while presiding over the lighting of the Christmas tree by declaring the county would take decisive action against the errand workers.
He warned that any worker who associates with the ‘good for nothing’ leaders out to undermine his agenda would be dealt with firmly.
“There are some of you who don’t appreciate the struggle we go through to pay you. You’re involved with people who have no agenda, you hold night meetings to undermine my development plans and are engaged in secret early campaigns,” He charged.
Two weeks ago Khalwale hosted ward and community area administrators from seven sub counties in a county that has twelve sub counties, for a Christmas bash, sending political shocks in governor Barasa’ camp.
The People Daily is also aware scores of other cadres of county employees are scheduled to face the public service disciplinary committee early next year for associating with the likes of Cabinet secretary Wycliffe Oparanya and Kakamega woman MP Elsie Muhanda.
Political relation between governor Barasa, Oparanya and Muhanda have lately goner from bad to worse. Muhanda, like Khalwale has clapped her sight on the governor seat in 2027.
Interviews with some of the workers who’ve received the show cause notice revealed their fears.
“Some of us are relatives to his political opponents, other are neighbours. How then do I avoid them or become hostile when we meet in the village,” a worker on notice for allegedly attending a funeral also attended by Barasa opponent (CS Oparanya) observed.
