A coordinated security operation in Trans-Nzoia County has led to the arrest of a person of interest linked to mobilising goons who are responsible for criminal activities in the region.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Administration Police Service, and the General Service Unit (GSU), working together with local police, arrested the goon mobiliser following intelligence-led operations.

According to a statement shared by sleuths from DCI on Thursday, April 23, 2026, during the raid at his residence, officers recovered several items believed to be used in illegal mobilisation activities, including reflector jackets, stickers, swords, and other materials.

“In a well-coordinated crackdown on criminal elements in Trans-Nzoia County, a team of officers drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, the Administration Police Service headquarters, and the General Service Unit (GSU) headquarters, alongside officers from Trans Nzoia, have apprehended a prime suspect implicated in the mobilisation and financing of goons within the region.”

Investigators say the person of interest is accused of playing a key role in organising and supporting groups of goons operating within the Kipsongo area, who are linked to various incidents affecting residents in Trans-Nzoia County.

In a related operation in the Mitume and Miti Moja areas of Kitale, police also arrested 11 people of interest. Items reported to have been stolen from members of the public, including laptops and gas cylinders, were recovered during the arrests.

“A thorough search uncovered a cache of incriminating evidence, including reflector jackets designed for mobilisation, stickers, three swords, and other materials linked to his illicit operations.”

The people of interest are currently in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue. Police say efforts are ongoing to track down other individuals believed to be involved in similar activities.

Security agencies have reaffirmed their commitment to curbing criminal gangs and restoring safety in the county.

Goons interrupting political activities

This comes days after there was reported goonism in Nzoia Kitale town, which saw the niko kadi campaign that was taking place disrupted by people who were believed to be goons

Trans-Nzoia governor George Natembeya had also previously raised similar concerns, saying that there is a group of goons operating in the area.
