Gloria Orwoba says she has not received salary for over 5 months since suspension
Former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba has stated that she has not received her salary for the past five months following her suspension from the Senate.
Speaking during a radio interview on Monday, August 25, 2025, Orwoba claimed that her remuneration was stopped illegally despite the suspension committee not issuing any directive to cut off her pay.
According to Orwoba, the Senate Business Committee, which had recommended her suspension, had not included salary stoppage among the privileges she was to lose. She explained that by law, when a member is suspended, it is the suspending committee that decides which privileges are to be withdrawn.

These could range from allowances, access to office facilities, or participation in certain activities, but the committee handling her case had not touched her salary.
“I have not received a salary since I was suspended; it was stopped by the clerk legally. It’s now a 5-month law. When you are suspended, it depends on the declaration of the suspension that powers and privileges have been suspended. A or C, and it’s the committee that is suspending you that decides which privilege to strip from you. The committee that suspended me did not touch my salary.” Orwoba stated,
Advice from Senate Business Committee
Despite this, Orwoba stated that her salary was still stopped.
Nevertheless, her salary has remained suspended for five months, a situation she described as unfair and illegal.
“And when the clerk went to ask the Senate business committee, he was told in that committee to not touch her salary, even though there was a legal advisory that was written to him stating that you can’t touch her salary, but my salary was stopped anyway; I can’t even remember the last time I received my salary,” she added.
