Gedi, six others get nod to serve in revenue commission
Members of Parliament yesterday approved seven nominees to the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA).
The National Assembly had been summoned for a Special Sitting to approve the names of the commissioners. The commission is mandated to share revenue to the two levels of government.
They are Benedict Mutiso, former Wajir County Woman Rep Fatuma Gedi (pictured), George Midiwo, Hadija Nganyi, Isabel Waiyaki, Jonas Kuko and Wilfred Nchoshoi.
The seven will be non-executive members of the commission and will serve a term of six years on part time basis. They will, however, not be eligible for reappointment.
The commissioners will be sworn-in early next year after the mandate of the Jane Kiringai-led commission ends on December 31.
Molo MP Kuria Kimani, who chairs the Finance Committee, told the House that the seven exhibited knowledge of the workings of the commission and that they did not have dubious or criminal records.
Kuria said the committee conducted a background checks with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) and the Kenya Revenue
Authority (KRA) to ascertain their suitability.
“The committee paid due regard to the procedure used to arrive at the nominees and their suitability for the appointment having regard to whether their abilities, experience and qualities meet the needs of the commission,” Kimani said.
