Gang Suppression Force denies death of Kenyan officer in Haiti
The Gang Suppression Force (GSF) has denied reports claiming that a Kenyan officer was killed during a recent operation in Haiti. In a statement released on Monday, October 20, 2025, the GSF dismissed the rumours circulating on social media as false and misleading.
According to the update shared on the official X account of the GSF, the joint team of GSF, the Haitian National Police (PNH), and the Haitian Armed Forces (FAD’H) conducted targeted operations and patrols in the Artibonite Department. The main goal was to clear the Petite-Rivière–Liancourt–Pont Sondé route, which had been blocked by gang activities.
The major operation took place on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 6:30 am to 10:00 pm. The joint forces faced resistance from the Gran-Griff gang but managed to secure the area. The team cleared several barricades and ensured the safe delivery of armoured vehicles to police stations in Pont Sondé, Petite-Rivière, and Liancourt. The GSF said these vehicles would boost the security presence in the region.
During the operation, gang members tried to strengthen their defences by digging trenches and occupying tall buildings on both sides of the road. They used Molotov cocktails in an attempt to slow down the security forces, but the GSF and PNH specialised units quickly neutralised the threat.
The GSF thanked local residents for their cooperation and assured them that no Kenyan officer had been harmed during the mission.
“Contrary to some misleading reports circulating on social media, no Kenyan officer was killed during the operation,” the statement said.

Patrols intensify across Haiti
The force added that patrols and joint missions continued in Port-au-Prince, covering areas such as Downtown, Kenscoff, Furcy, and near the airport. The operations focused on dismantling gang networks, securing major transport routes, and protecting critical infrastructure.

The update came days after reports that the United States had delivered 20 new Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to the GSF. Five of these have already been deployed in Artibonite to strengthen the ongoing operations.
Kenya is among the countries that have deployed personnel to Haiti since June 2024. The GSF, which replaced the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission, operates under a UN mandate aimed at restoring order and stability in the Caribbean nation plagued by gang violence.
The GSF praised all officers serving in Haiti, describing their efforts as vital to restoring peace and rebuilding public confidence in the security system.
