Democracy For Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has warned the Orange Democratic Movement to be wary of their association with President William Ruto, warning that they risk losing their influence in Nairobi if they stick with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leader.

Speaking on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, Gachagua stated that ODM has since lost its stranglehold on Nairobi and its environs.

He warned that the recent by-election victories by his DCP party affirmed the dwindling status of the former dominant outfit, expressing dismay at what the party stands to benefit from clinging to Ruto.

Is Ruto killing ODM?

“Ruto is killing ODM. My advice to ODM is that you will lose every seat in Nairobi if you keep following Ruto; he only has 24,000 votes in a corner here in Lang’ata in Nairobi. Where else will they get their seats from while clinging to Ruto? ” he stated.

The DCP leader placed Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and ODM election director Junet Mohammed at the centre of the ploy to relinquish the party control to Ruto.

“Junet used to be with Raila every time, but the day he died, he never went to collect his body; he pretended to be sick and went on to sell the party among other brokers like Wanga,” he added.

Gachagua stated that it has been in Ruto’s plan to finish the outfit and urged the party to remain alert to the ploy.

“Ruto has destroyed ODM, and we are very saddened. He told me that he would finish ODM while I was serving as his deputy,” he added.

Gachagua concluded by imploring the top leadership and veteran leaders of the party not to allow the takeover of what he termed as the legacy of the former revered leader.

Govt hopes in 2027

His remarks come as he declared that his DCP party will field a presidential candidate and go on to form the next government.

“I want to tell the naysayers that the future of Kenya is here. DCP will form the new government. Watch this space! We will not be distracted by anyone.”

“In the 2027 elections, we shall win the presidency and most gubernatorial and senatorial seats. We shall win most parliamentary seats,” he declared.
