Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has declared that the seven-month-old political outfit will form the government after the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, during the celebration of its victories in the concluded by-elections, Gachagua commended his party’s performance in the recent poll, terming it an affirmation of its growing momentum.

Next government

“I want to tell the naysayers that the future of Kenya is here. DCP will form the new government. Watch this space! We will not be distracted by anyone.”

“In the 2027 elections, we shall win the presidency and most gubernatorial and senatorial seats. We shall win most parliamentary seats,” he declared.

Gachagua also reiterated that they will be fielding a presidential candidate in the election, as well as fielding candidates in gubernatorial, senatorial, and parliamentary seats across Kenya.

Presidential candidate

“In the 2027 general election, DCP shall have a presidential candidate. We shall also field governors and senators across all the 47 counties and also in the parliamentary seats across the nation,” he added.

On the political front, Gachagua hit out at Ruto for slighting his new party’s might and reminded him that it remains a national party that will send him home.

He stated that constant harassment and intimidation of its members demonstrate that the party posed the most consequential threat to the Kenya Kwanza.

“We are the newest party in Kenya, the most serious, and the most fought by the government since they know we pose the greatest threat to William Ruto and are capable of sending him home.”

“The truth is we are being fought because we are the most popular, truthful, and one that listens to the people of the Kenyan voter,” he added.

Gachagua further clarified that his outfit will conduct free and fair party nominations, emphasising that those keen on a direct party ticket should try elsewhere.

He stated the party would have no preferred candidates when issuing party tickets, noting that all aspirants must face the people in a gruelling party primary.

“There are no direct nominations in DCP,” he stated.
