Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has assured the residents of Emurua Dikirr that after the constituency by-elections, he will pay a condolence visit to the mother of their late MP, Johanna Ng’eno.

While speaking to them on a phone call during the heated constituency by-election campaign, where he had fielded a candidate from his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), he expressed deep sorrow to the locals, saying he was unable to attend the funeral but would ensure he visited the family in person.

Mimi nataka kuwambia pole na hii maneno ya uchaguzi ikiisha, nitakuja kwa mamake mzazi kusema pole.” Gachagua

He further stated that he and the late MP shared a common bond and that Ng’eno was his personal confidant for a long time. He urged the locals that, since their MP is gone, they now have an opportunity to elect a new “Johanna,” who, according to him, is Vincent Rotich, the DCP candidate, to continue from where the late MP left off.

He continued to endorse his candidate, saying that as a former chief, Rotich would easily fit into Johanna’s shoes.

He further pledged additional support to Emurua Dikir residents, saying that if they elect Vincent as their MP, he will provide them with a team of lawyers to help them in disputes and legal representation in court to pursue justice over long-standing historical injustices affecting the people of Emurua Dikir and Angata Barrikoi.

He added that he has already constituted a team of 10 lawyers to assist the community in seeking justice. He further urged Rotich to emulate the late Johanna Ng’eno, be fearless, and not remain silent in the face of injustice being meted out to the community.

This comes days after taking it to his social media handles. On Friday, March 6, 2026, Gachagua, in an emotional statement, referred to Ng’eno as a courageous, brave, focused, brilliant, and selfless leader who sacrificed his life for his people.

Confirming his absence at the funeral of the late MP that is set to take place in Emurua Dikirr, Gachagua penned down that his principles would not allow him to sit with those who tormented the late MP as much as he would have wanted to give him a sendoff.

“I would have wanted to come and bury you, but my principles can’t allow me to sit with those who tormented and persecuted you in life as they pretend to love you in death,” Gachagua said.
