Gachagua raises concern over dwindling population growth in Mt Kenya
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised concerns over a reduced population in the Mount Kenya region.
Gachagua made the comment after meeting Kiama Kiama elders from Githunguri on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
“We noted our concern about our dwindling population and agreed on remedial measures. We agreed to remain united and love one another as we protect the community from persecution and extinction,” Gachagua said in a post on his social media pages.
“The elders approved my efforts to reach out to our cousins and in-laws to protect the community from isolation, as planned by our enemies.
“We all prayed for peace and prosperity for all Kenyans.”

Gachagua also asked the elders to help identify credible leaders and keep away those he described as traitors.
“When kinsmen meet over a meal, they don’t do so because they don’t have food in their homes but to discuss their ways, customs and beliefs,” Gachagua added.
“Today was such a day as I met thousands of elders of Kiama Kiama in Githunguri to discuss our fears and our aspirations! The elders expressed their disgust that illicit alcohol was back in villages after my exit from office, causing havoc and killing our young population,” he added.
“I requested the elders to keep traitors at bay and join the rest of the population in identifying credible leaders loyal to the community and who shall not auction the community to fill their stomachs, as is the case today.”
Gachagua has been on a countrywide tour popularising the United Opposition outfit ahead of the 2027 polls.
