Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called out President William Ruto accusing him of unleashing violent gangs and police on innocent Kenyans.

Speaking during a TikTok live session hosted by user @Kuira wa Kabiru on Thursday, January 23, 2025, Gachagua lamented the emergence of violent criminal gangs which he claimed are being employed by state machinery to threaten and silence government dissenters.

“This administration has sent the police in Haiti to help people there fight criminals yet the same government back home is funding rival criminal gangs to cause mayhem in Kenya. It doesn’t make sense why you want to send police to help foreigners fight criminals yet in Kenya you spend public resources to revive a criminal gang and finance it to cause mayhem on its own citizens,” he said.

The politician’s comments follow the sustained attacks borne by the Kenya Kwanza over its response to criticism from the youth.

Gachagua’s wife Dorcas has been a victim of the melee after a violent mob stormed her prayer meeting in Kamukunji grounds on Thursday, January 16, 2025.

During the event, Maina Njenga who was accompanied by a group of youths, stormed the venue forcing speakers at the podium to cut short their speeches.

“Unleashing the leader of an outlawed criminal gang and his goons to disrupt peaceful prayers and desecrate the altar is the lowest any government can go, no matter the level of desperation,” Gachagua stated.

In mitigation, Gachagua has pledged to establish a responsible force focused on combating crime.

“In an administration I will be part of we will ensure we secure Kenyans.  We will ensure Kenyans are safe and free to go about their business. We will deal with criminals according to the law. At the moment there is a lot of fear and anxiety in the country,” he said.

He further observed that this has had far reaching impacts including hindering kenya’s economic growth.
