Gachagua hosts university students and student leaders at his Wamunyoro residence

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday, May 3, 2025, met a section of university students and student leaders from Tharaka Nithi County at his Wamunyoro residence.
Issuing a statement after the meeting where he was accompanied his wife Dorcas Rigathi and Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina, Gachagua praised the students and a section of grassroots leaders and mobilizers who visited him, describing them as ambitious, visionary and people centred leaders.

“These ambitious, visionary, and people-centred grassroots leaders and Mobilizers from Tharaka Nithi County paid a visit on me at Our Wamunyoro residence,” the statement shared by the former Mathira Member of Parliament (MP) reads in part.
He shared that they had assured that they will listen to the people of Tharaka Nithi and treat them with respect.
The former DP equally pointed out that his guests expressed the challenges they face in the community and various universities.

“The issue-based approach that the young people have brought forth speaks to my heart and what I have always advocated for all along.
“They have shared with me the challenges they face in the community and also at their various universities and the unresponsive dysfunctional university funding model,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence, a once sleepy town, has slowly morphed into the centre of key political decisions and talks, following his ouster last year.
His latest interaction with he students comes a day after he hosted a section of Embu leaders led by Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji.
Issuing a statement, Gachagua noted that the high-level meeting was a listening forum where Embu residents’ concerns were laid bare through their leaders and assured them that his office remained open to dialogue and inclusion.
“Extensive consultation with the people of Embu County led by Manyatta MP and chairman Young Parliamentarians Hon. Gitonga Mukunji and other leaders underscores my commitment to a consultative approach to issues affecting Kenyans, my fellow countrymen,” the former Deputy President wrote.
“I have heard the people of Embu County. I will be with you every step of the way towards a better Kenya where no one is left behind,” he added.
