Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has cut short his USA tour to focus on the upcoming by-elections in the country.

In a statement on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Gachagua expressed his regrets to Kenyans in the diaspora, stating that he would not be able to travel to as many states as he had envisaged on his two-month trip.

“I had a very successful and fulfilling visit to the United States of America with serious engagements with Kenyans in the Diaspora,” Gachagua said.

“I regret being unable to visit the scheduled remaining States since I need to get back home to join our party DCP in preparation for the upcoming By-Elections in various parts of our country.”

Reschedules US tour

Gachagua equally revealed that he would be resuming his US diaspora engagement tour early next year, noting that his itinerary will be made public.

“I am sorry to cut my trip short; my profound apologies to the organizers and Kenyans whom I was to meet; the same has been rescheduled for early next year,” he noted.

He has also indicated that he will be taking a break to rest before making his way back to the country with his spouse, Pastor Dorcas.

“I have taken a few days to rest before heading home, and as promised, my itinerary will be made public. I thank the Kenyans in the States for the love, warmth, and hospitality they accorded to us,” Gachagua said.

By-elections litmus test

“I salute the organizers and officials of the DCP chapters for superb planning, organization, and meticulous coordination. You are simply the best.”

This comes after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced that the by-elections would be conducted on November 27, 2025.

DCP has already named Edgar Busiega as its candidate for the Malava constituency by-election and Aden Mohammed as the candidate for the Banisa constituency.

Six constituencies are up for grabs, one senatorial seat and 16 ward seats in the upcoming by-elections.

The campaign period is slated to begin on October 8, 2025, and run until November 24, 2025.
