Forest boss urges staff to embrace ICT skills
Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) Alex Lemarkoko has urged staff at the State Department of Forestry to embrace technology in their training and duties.
Speaking in Naivasha on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, to a committee reviewing the institution’s human resource instruments, Lemarkoko urged the panel to remain true to the needs of the Service, while appreciating the dynamics in the organization’s operating environment.
“Service delivery is today more IT inclined and therefore greater emphasis should be put in promoting training in the area,” Lemarkoko noted.
Additionally, the forest boss urged the team to factor in the review process, the government’s development priorities, as well as the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) succession management with a clear understanding of anticipated challenges and interventions therein.
Lemarkoko advised the team that the review documents must clearly define staff needs to ensure optimal performance that will lead to lasting outputs especially better protected, conserved and managed forests.
He added that training for all relevant cadres must be comprehensive and start at the basic level.
Senior Manager Corporate Services who is also the HR Instruments Review Committee Chairperson Lucy Kiboi assured that all measures were in place to ensure the best possible outcomes are captured in the review process.
The instruments under review were the organization and grading structure, staff establishment, career progression guidelines, and human resource policy and procedures manual.
This comes just a day after the Kenya Forest Service announced a recruitment process to fill some 179 vacancies in the institution.
