FKF PL top scorer Shumah reveals secrets to fine scoring run

Football Kenya Federation Premier League lead scorer and Kakamega Homeboyz ace Moses Shumah believes earning a steady run of games has been crucial to his goal-scoring streak in the 2024/25 season.
The Homeboyz’ goal poacher, who sits atop the league scoring charts with 17 goals with only a couple of fixtures left, attributed the confidence entrusted by his coach and the support of his teammates.
“The coach has shown tremendous trust in me, and it gave me the confidence I needed. Since his arrival and the new technical bench, I have been able to get playing time and opportunities to showcase what I can do on the pitch. In other instances, I would not be on the pitch and get to score,” Shumah said while referencing a case of his last-gasp goal against Kariobangi Sharks in a 2-0 victory.
The goal placed him as a strong contender for the coveted prize as he moved clear of his challenger, Emmanuel Osoro’s haul of 16.

In what has been a stealth ascent to the league’s pinnacle by the Homeboyz poacher, Shumah was ranked third with seven goals, eight behind the lead scorer Ryan Ogam of Tusker, at the conclusion of the first half of the league in January.
A prolific second half saw the striker catch up with the top scorer before he shot clear on May 14, 2025. This season marks his second stab at the Golden Boot, after a devastating injury left him lagging in the season prior.
Derailed
“I remember last season I suffered an injury having started the season well, and it threw things out of the plan. It has been different this term. More minutes on the pitch have really helped me, and also the support from my teammates who have pushed me hard towards my targets,” he added.
The striker has, however, kept mum on his preferred goal target for the season.
“I feel it’s not in my position to state the number I want to reach. I’m not laying down any particular targets. As I said before, as long as the team is on a good run and winning, that is the most important, and I know the goals will come,” the lanky striker stressed.
Shumah could add to his tally as Francis Baraza’s charges face Bidco United in an away clash in Nairobi when the league resumes.
The Kakamega-based club will conclude the season at home against Tusker FC.
