Mother’s Day celebrations continue this week at Tenwek Hospital where expectant, lactating and mothers seeking antenatal care will receive free healthcare courtesy of BIDCO Africa’s partnership with the Bomet-based hospital.

A medical ministry on the Africa Gospel Church, Tenwek Hospital launched the partnership with BIDCO in support of mothers who have been left out amongst the people who are eligible for COVID-19 Vaccine.

“Mothers’ Day is neither an event nor a one-off celebration, to us, mothers are so important that we would like to celebrate them at their point of need,” John Lawrence, BIDCO’s Head of Corporate PR and Communications said at the launch.

In the shared belief that life begins at conception, BIDCO AFRICA Group seeks to educate, inform and advocate that every woman has a right to live and survive pregnancy and childbirth.

Such a responsibility cannot be left to mothers alone, it is a societal concern and a responsibility that spans beyond governmental agencies and medical facilities. We as the private sector must seek to join hands and forces towards ensuring that all women receive the right and competent medicare needed for safe and healthy pregnancy and childbirth,” he added.

The partnership will see Tenwek Hospital offer a wide range of free medical services to mothers visiting their Mother and Child (MCH) Clinic for a five-day period beginning May 10. On the other hand, Bidco Group and their sister company BIDCORO Africa limited will delight every mother who visits the hospital with SunTop fruit juice, alcohol-based Gental Care Hand Sanitizers, Hand Wash, and Fabric Softeners.

“Our Gental Care range of products continue to impact lives one home at a time. As BIDCORO and BIDCO, we chose to partner with Tenwek Hospital as a way of doing good and giving back to society,” BIDCO Africa’s Home and Personal Care Category Lead Juddy Mukami said.

Tenwek Hospital which serves a daily average of 120 women through the MCH clinic will also offer free blood sugar and blood pressure screening, breast cancer examination and nutrition advice as complementary services during this period. Other services that the hospital will offer include specialized medical advisory services in breast feeding support, health and fitness management, mental wellness support and child safety training.

Commenting at the launch of the partnership, Tenwek Hospital CEO Shem Tangus said, “As the leading mission hospital in the greater South West region, we are happy to partner with Bidco in our quest to offer quality and affordable medical services to the community.”

“Motherhood is tough and most times, mothers tend to care for their young ones and often forget themselves. This initiative will allow us to offer primary and preventative care for mothers while at the same time send a strong message that mothers too need support, love and care,” he added.
