According to the statement, Kenya Red Cross deployed its first responders, the EMS Kenya ambulance crew, and psychosocial support personnel to assist students alongside other emergency responders and relevant authorities at the scene.

The organisation further noted that support teams remained on the ground as emergency operations continued, although the extent of the damage and possible injuries had not been officially confirmed by the time of publication.

Rising fire incidents

The Utumishi Girls Academy incident comes barely days after another major fire outbreak was reported in Nairobi’s Kariobangi estate, where a huge blaze engulfed sections of Kariobangi Light Industries.

In a statement shared on X on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Kariobangi Social Justice Centre said firefighters and residents struggled to contain the rapidly spreading inferno as thick smoke filled the sky.

Videos and images circulating online showed residents attempting to salvage property while firefighters battled to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby residential and business premises.

The Kariobangi incident also came shortly after another late-night fire outbreak in Waruku near Kangemi, where at least 20 houses and 11 businesses were reportedly affected.

The growing number of fire incidents has continued to raise concerns among Kenyans over emergency preparedness, response capacity, and safety standards in residential, business, and learning institutions.

Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the Utumishi Girls Academy fire as emergency teams continue with response operations in Nakuru County.
