Reactions to JKIA fire

Reactions to the fire incident at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) grassland area are expected to dominate headlines today. 

The aforementioned area was consumed by the fire which began on the evening of Friday, February 21, 2025.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. 

Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) issued a statement noting that they were working diligently to stop the fire.

As of today, February 22, 2025, the authorities confirmed that the fire was successfully contained.

They also assured Kenyans that the incident did not interfere with airport activities including flight schedules, passenger processing and cargo handling remained unaffected.

More messages of condolences are expected to pour in for former chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati.

The former IEBC chair died aged on February 20, 2025. 

So far, leaders have come forth to express their condolences over his demise.
