The country yesterday recorded 331 new Covid-19 cases from a sample of 2,872 tested in the past 24 hours.

Positivity rate is now at 11.5 per cent, a record high in recent months, even as counties still registered less than 50 per cent in the number of fully vaccinated people countrywide.

Total confirmed cases are now 256,815 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,894,765.

“As of December 13, a total of 8,223,238 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, 4,947,002 were partially vaccinated while 3,276,236 were fully inoculated,” said Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe in a statement yesterday.

This even as the CS ruled out a possibility of a lockdown soon despite the spiralling cases being witnessed lately.

Data from the ministry shows at least 4.9 million Kenyans have received their first Covid-19 dose while 3.3 million are fully vaccinated.

Another 9,013 of teenagers aged between 15 and 18 have received the Pfizer vaccine.

The second dose uptake stands at 57.2 percent while the proportion of adults fully vaccinated is at 12 per cent.


Kagwe said Nairobi is leading with 30.5 per cent of the population fully vaccinated followed by Nyeri at 25.3 per cent then Kiambu comes third with 19.3 per cent.

The number of persons vaccinated in Laikipia stands at 19.1 per then Murang’a with 14.7 per cent, Uasin Gishu (14.6), Taita Taveta (14.5) while Kirinyaga is at 13.7.


Wajir is among counties with the least number of population fully vaccinated at 2.7 per cent and Mandera with 2.5 per cent.
