Faith Kipyegon continued her impressive winning streak by dominating the women’s 5,000m race at the World Championships National Trials on Friday.

Kipyegon crossed the finish line in a time of 14:53.90, leaving her closest competitor Lilian Kasait trailing behind with a time of 14:56.50. Margaret Chelimo secured the third spot with a time of 15:07.49.

Kipyegon’s victory solidifies her position as one of the top runners in the world and earns her a ticket to the World Championship.

As she already holds a wild card entry for the 1500m event at the World Championships, she will not compete in that distance during the trials.

Instead, she will shift her focus to the upcoming Monaco leg of the Diamond League, which will be her final competition before the World Championships.

Nicholas Kimeli

In the men’s 10,000m race, Nicholas Kimeli claimed the top spot, automatically securing his place on the Kenyan team for the World Championships in Budapest.

Kimeli’s impressive performance was followed closely by Daniel Ebenyo, who finished in second place.

Kimeli, who already has a wild card entry in the 5,000m event due to his Diamond League win, expressed his desire to compete in both distances at the World Championships. His victory in the trials further strengthens his chances of achieving this goal.

For Vincent Kibet, who finished third in the men’s 10,000m race, his selection for the World Championships will depend on the discretion of the Athletics Kenya Selection Panel.

Kibet hopes that his performance will earn him a place as the third athlete in the event.
