Eugene Wamalwa claps back at Ruto over Nairobi Hospital remarks
By Cynthia Lodite, March 17, 2026Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) party leader Eugene Wamalwa has clapped back at President William Ruto’s remarks to the Opposition leaders over the governance of The Nairobi Hospital.
Taking to his official X account on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, Wamalwa slammed Ruto for failing to distinguish between a private and a public hospital amid the ongoing management challenges witnessed in Nairobi Hospital.
On his part, Wamalwa, while calling him out, maintained that serving as patron to the institution is an honorary position and not a shareholding or decision-making position.
Further adding that Ruto’s position as the Nairobi Hospital Patron does not allow him to seize the powers of the Board of Management.
“Brainless is he who doesn’t know the difference between a private and a public hospital. Brainless is he who doesn’t know that a “patron” is an honorary position and not a shareholding or decision-making position that can allow one to usurp the powers of the board,” Wamalwa stated

Ruto on Nairobi Hospital leadership
Wamalwa’s remarks followed after Ruto addressed the ongoing governance challenges at the institution.
Speaking on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, Ruto took on Opposition leaders, warning them against scaving for attention in the ongoing governance challenges at the Nairobi Hospital
“To the brainless opposition, the governance challenges at the Nairobi Hospital were nothing more than an opportunity to scavenge for cheap headlines and attention,” Ruto said.
At the time, Ruto stated that as the institution’s patron, he would not stand by and watch fraudsters, charlatans, and conmen drag down one of the premier hospitals in the region.
On his part, Ruto assured that sanity would be restored and order would prevail.
“The con artists will swiftly face the full force of the law. This institution was built on integrity, service, and excellence; values that will not be compromised by opportunists and self-serving interests. Sanity shall be restored, order will prevail, and the right thing will be done; decisively and without hesitation,” Ruto stated.
