Envoy says polls were transparent

The Portuguese Government has termed the just-concluded polls as transparent, verifiable, free and fair.

Portuguese ambassador to Kenya Ana Filomena Costa Da Rocha (pictured), said Kenyans democratically and peacefully elected their leaders.

She at the same time took the opportunity to congratulate President-Elect William Ruto and urged Kenyans from across the political divide to support his administration.

Envoy described the exercise as successful, noting that the same is an indication that Kenya is a democratic country, which other countries, world over should emulate.

“During the August polls, the country encountered a successful electoral cycle. All I can do is say thank you Kenyans for conducting peaceful elections,” she said.

She spoke in Limuru at St Paul’s University Amphitheater yesterday when she gave a public lecture on International Relations to students.

Rocha said her country would continue to improve its relationship with Kenya, noting that the two countries have enjoyed good political, economic and cultural relationships for decades.
