What began as a domestic dispute has now turned into a tragic loss of life, after an elderly man who had been battling for survival in a hospital for over two months finally succumbed to injuries inflicted during a brutal assault.

In a report by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) released on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the detectives confirmed that the 54-year-old man was assaulted on Christmas Eve 2025.

According to the detectives, the elderly man who lived in Umoja sustained severe injuries during the violent attack and was rushed to Metropolitan Hospital for emergency medical attention.

“A 54-year-old resident of Umoja was on the night of December 24-25, 2025, seriously assaulted in a disturbing incident that shocked those close to him. The elderly man sustained severe injuries during the violent attack and was rushed to Metropolitan Hospital for emergency medical attention,” DCI said.

Due to the critical nature of his condition, doctors later referred him to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), where he was immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The assault

Reports by the DCI reveal that, following the incident, police officers launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the assault.

The officers later uncovered a family dispute involving his two stepsons as the centre of the attack, with preliminary findings indicating that the assault stemmed from simmering domestic disagreements that tragically escalated into a vicious attack

“Investigators established that the victim had allegedly been violently assaulted by two of his stepsons. Preliminary findings indicated that the assault stemmed from simmering domestic disagreements that tragically escalated into a vicious attack,” DCI explained

The detectives later launched a swift investigation, apprehending the two key persons of interest on December 28, 2025.

Meanwhile, the victim remained in critical condition at the ICU of Kenyatta National Hospital, where doctors closely monitored him for more than two months. Despite the relentless efforts of medical teams to save his life, the injuries proved too severe.

DCI have confirmed that on March 6, 2026, the victim sadly succumbed to the injuries he had sustained during the assault, bringing a heartbreaking end to a prolonged and painful fight for survival.
