Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) yesterday backed Grade Four rollout, of the Competency-Based Curriculum, slated for next year, saying it will go a long way towards imparting values and ethics amongst learners at an early stage.

Speaking during a pre-conference forum dubbed ‘entrenching Values based education in Kenya’ at Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development yesterday, EACC Commissioner Mwaniki Gachoka said they want to develop a shared understanding on  CBC to facilitate a more collective engagement and implementation of values based education.

“The objective for this pre-conference on value-based pillar of CBC is to submit facts with evidence to support the curriculum reforms and agree on a position statement to steer expansion of CBC to Grade Four and beyond that will be presented during the national conference,” Gachoka said, adding that the commission has partnered with Education ministry to effect programmes in schools that inculcate the culture of value system in learning institutions.

 Education Cabinet secretary George Magoha’s representative Paul Teliba said the education system must go beyond classrooms and parental responsibilities to community participation to impart ethics and values among students.

“To uphold integrity of the education we need to ensure examinations and systems have sufficient levels of integrity so that the products of examination can stand the demands of the market,” he said.
