Gor Mahia attacking midfielder Austine Odhiambo believes the team’s struggles in the concluded season will work for the ultimate good of the record Football Kenya Premier League champions.

In an interview with the media on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Odhiambo credited the massive rebuild that has happened at the club as being triggered by the dismal season that culminated with K’ogalo relinquishing its title to new champions, Kenya Police FC.

“The season has been a tough one for Gor Mahia and all of us as a team. We have been unlucky in the season, and it is normal to have such a down phase in football. On a personal level, I suffered an injury midway, shook it off, and came back to help the team as best I could,” he said.

Rebuilding

“I believe it all happened for the good of the club management. They have seen where we need to rebuild. Had we won the league, perhaps we could not have changed things in the team, so maybe it happened so that we rebuild and raise a competitive team again,” he stated.

Following the disappointing season, Gor Mahia embarked on a massive rebuild, starting with the top hierarchy, where the CEO and head coach roles were put up for new candidates.

The changes saw coach Zedekiah Otieno and Michael Nam axed only days after being promoted to the head coach role following coach Sinisa Mihic opting to part ways with the team.

Speaking to the media after the decision to sack the entire technical bench, Ambore Rachier, the club chair, stated that the processes were undertaken amicably and in the best interest of both parties.

Rachier on sackings

“We had a meeting about it, and we went through the contract for those with written contracts individually. It was something amicable and mutual, and they took account of their own dignity. They have signed without any pressure,” he stated.

“We started on the premise of what the contracts stated. And we went beyond the contracts just to say we are not blaming an individual since when you put the element of blame, then you open an avenue for litigation, which is not necessary,” he added.
