Duale urges highlights how govt is dealing with drought in Northern Kenya

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale presided over the 7th graduation ceremony of the Hasfa Binti Sirin Centre for Islamic Studies and Arabic Language, highlighting the dual importance of education and urgent drought relief in parts of the country.

In a statement shared on X on Sunday, February 8, 2026, the event celebrated the achievements of 34 girls while drawing attention to the government’s ongoing interventions for vulnerable communities.

Duale reflected on the graduation and the centre’s curriculum, emphasizing the foundation it provides for young women.

“Presided over the 7th graduation ceremony of the Hasfa Binti Sirin Centre for Islamic Studies and Arabic Language, where 34 girls graduated at various levels. The Centre offers a rich and holistic curriculum covering the Holy Qur’an, Hadith, Fiqh and Seerah, equipping learners with a solid grounding in Islamic principles and proficiency in Arabic,” Duale’s statement reads.

Duale highlighted the ongoing interventions to address the drought affecting parts of North Eastern. Duale said the government has allocated Ksh 7 billion for relief in the worst-affected areas.

“In my remarks, I highlighted ongoing government interventions to address the drought affecting several parts of the country. Notably, the Government has allocated Ksh 7 billion for emergency relief, including food distribution, hay for livestock and water trucking to the worst-affected areas, an expression of President William Ruto’s commitment to protecting vulnerable communities,” the statement reads.

Duale also appealed to private stakeholders to support the Government’s efforts, underlining that collaborative action was necessary to protect the most affected populations.

“I also called on the corporate sector and philanthropists to complement these efforts,” Duale wrote.

He noted that the graduation ceremony itself demonstrated the transformative power of education in equipping young women to contribute meaningfully to society.

“The ceremony reaffirmed the transformative power of education in empowering young women and girls. As they step into the next chapter, these graduates are well-prepared to make meaningful contributions to their communities and the country at large,” the statement reads.

The colourful event, hosted by the centre’s leadership, brought together community and religious leaders, providing a platform to discuss both education and national challenges.
