Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has announced the rollout of biometric enrollment for minors, a move aimed at improving access to healthcare services and strengthening the management of children’s medical records across the country.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Duale said the initiative will establish a secure link between every child and their health records, helping eliminate duplicate registrations and cases of misidentification within the healthcare system.

Linking children to health records

According to the CS, the new system will enable healthcare providers to access a child’s medical history, immunization records and treatment information from any Social Health Authority (SHA) facility nationwide.

“We are establishing a secure link for each child to their health record, eliminating duplicate registrations and misidentification,” Duale said.

He noted that access to accurate health information will allow medical workers to make faster and more informed clinical decisions, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

Boosting efficiency and accountability

Duale said biometric verification will also enhance institutional security by reducing cases of benefit misuse and ensuring healthcare resources reach legitimate beneficiaries.

The digital system is expected to simplify patient registration processes, reduce waiting times and allow healthcare workers to spend more time attending to patients instead of handling paperwork.

“Biometric verification enhances institutional security, significantly reducing benefit misuse and ensuring resources go to legitimate beneficiaries,” he said.

Driving health technology innovation

The Health CS said the integration of minors into the digital platform marks another step in Kenya’s efforts to modernise healthcare services through technology.

He added that the initiative will strengthen the country’s position as a leader in health technology innovation on the African continent.

“Integrating our youth into this platform strengthens Kenya’s leadership in health technology innovation throughout Africa,” Duale said.

The biometric enrollment programme forms part of the government’s broader efforts to digitise healthcare services, improve efficiency and enhance access to quality care for all Kenyans.
