Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Aden Duale on Monday, August 19, 2024, made a familiarisation visit of the Kenya Forest Service (KFS).
Duale inspects guard of honour
Duale while at the KFS headquarters at Karura, in Nairobi, inspected a guard of honour by the KFS rangers who had lined up to welcome him.
The former National Assembly Majority Leader was reshuffled from the Ministry of Defense following the changes made by President William Ruto to his Cabinet after Gen Zs pushed for leadership change through widespread demonstrations.
Duale replaced Soipan Tuya at the Environment ministry after she was reshuffled to the ministry of Defense.
Duale to meet KFS board
Forestry PS Gitonga Mugambi, accompanied Duale during his familiarisation tour.
Duale was received by the conservation organization’s leadership, led by Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko and KFS Board Chairman Titus Korir.
During his tour, Duale will meet KFS Board, Management and Staff.

As part of the maiden visit, the Cabinet Secretary is expected to meet KFS Board, Management and Staff,” Duale’s ministry said in a statement shared via their official X handle.

Duale’s plan at Environment ministry
Duale in a statement on his X account after being sworn in on August 8, 2024, highlighted climate change, deforestation, and environmental degradation as key issues he aims to address during his tenure.
“I was honoured to be sworn in as Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry. Kenya faces urgent environmental challenges that require innovative solutions. As I assume this role, I am committed to tackling climate change, deforestation, and environmental degradation,” he stated.
Duale outlined his goal of achieving environmental targets and setting standards for sustainable development through science-based and data-driven approaches.
He officially assumed the role of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Cabinet Secretary on August 12, 2024, after his predecessor Tuya handed it to him.
