Duale bashes health union leaders for faking protests
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has said the health sector in Kenya has now stabilised.
Duale, who spoke to a local TV station on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, has regretted that a section of health union leaders have been faking protests by hiring demonstrators.
He has confidently stated that most of those who stage demonstrations at MoH offices (Afya House) are mostly paid and brought in by individuals with personal agendas.
The CS has said the ministry is focusing on strengthening service delivery while resisting attempts to weaponise healthcare workers.
Claims of hired protesters
“One thing I have seen at Afya House is that a majority of the people who come to demonstrate nowadays are not healthcare workers; some leaders are turning a very noble healthcare workforce, which we want to equip and make fit for purpose, into a tool for their own games,” Duale said.
He has emphasised that genuine healthcare workers have played a critical role in reforms and should not be dragged into political schemes.
He has further explained that some individuals have been exploiting the health workforce for personal gain.
“But there are people who want to earn their living by using the healthcare workers in our country, who are doing amazing work.
“Without healthcare workers, UHC, Taifa Care and the Universal Health Care Act will not be achieved. But they should not use healthcare workers as a bogey,” Duale added.

Duale has pointed out that the trend has existed in current and previous administrations.
“Not only the ones of today, but even some of the previous ones. Some are not genuine, and I can say that without any fear of contradiction,” the CS added.
The sector has stabilised
The CS has maintained that the sector has been operating in a more coordinated and predictable manner since he took office.
“Since I came in, healthcare workers will confirm, ask the doctors union, ask the UHC staff, ask the other leadership, the whole sector has now stabilised,” he said.
Finally, Duale has urged unions to adopt constructive engagement rather than disruptive theatrics, adding that the Ministry has been open to structured dialogue and fair labour practices.
