Driver arrested as police intercept bhang haul in Vihiga
Police in Vihiga County have arrested one person of interest and recovered cannabis sativa following an intelligence-led operation in Tiriki East Sub-County.
According to a police report on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, officers from the National Police Service-Kenya, working from Cheptulu Police Station, mounted an operation along the Chavakali–Kapsabet Highway after receiving credible intelligence of suspected drug trafficking.
During the operation in the Musasa area, officers intercepted a vehicle. They conducted a search that led to the discovery of several packages of green plant material suspected to be cannabis sativa (bhang). The substances were reportedly wrapped in yellow cellotape and concealed in different compartments of the vehicle.

“They intercepted a vehicle at the Musasa area and, upon conducting a thorough search, recovered several packages of green plant material wrapped in yellow cello tape and concealed in different sections of the vehicle. The substance is suspected to be cannabis sativa (bhang),” NPS stated.
The driver of the vehicle was immediately arrested and taken into custody as police launched further investigations into the incident and possible wider drug trafficking links.
“The driver was arrested and placed in police custody pending further investigations and appropriate legal action,” NPS stated.

The National Police Service commended members of the public for sharing timely intelligence that continues to aid law enforcement operations targeting narcotics and other criminal activities.

“The National Police Service commends members of the public who continue to provide timely information that supports law enforcement efforts in combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities,” NPS said.
