DP warns over tribal alliances, calls for issue-based politics

Deputy President William Ruto Deputy President William Ruto has asked leaders to stop creating tribal alliances.
He said such formations will not solve Kenyans’ problems. Speaking yesterday at the AIC Bomani in Machakos Town, he urged leaders to embrace a people-centred and issues-guided politics.
“Kenyans want leaders to work together and address their challenges, especially now when Covid-19 pandemic is destroying lives,” he said.
Ruto explained the era of politicians uniting to form tribal political outfits was long gone.
“The problem that millions of Kenyans are facing today is not tribalism but poverty. That is why we are re-engineering our economic model to put more emphasis on the lower end of the wealth pyramid.”
Ruto asked politicians forming alliances to compete with him to prepare for a tough race ahead.
“We are going to challenge each other on the platform of issues and development track-record,” he added.
Ruto spoke during installation Rev Philip Muia as Machakos area Africa Inland Church (AIC) bishop and his assistant Benjamin Kalonzo at AIC Bomani church in Machakos town.
Muia takes over after death of Benard Nguyo early this year. The event was also graced by AIC Kenya bishop Abraham Mulwa.
A team of politicians have been tasked to craft a coalition agreement between President Uhuru Kenyatta Jubilee Party and Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi( Amani National Congress) Gideon Moi(Kanu) and Moses Wetang’ula(Ford Kenya) have been coalescing under the One Kenya Alliance.
“I want to tell you that, as you plan to team up, this Kenyans are not interested with your coalitions , they don’t even want to know who you are competing with but are only interested in their social economic transformation to be able to get money in their pockets,” said Ruto.
On Friday, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu told President Kenyatta during opening of Our Lady of Protection Museve Shrine in Kitui that he should not leave power to corrupt people.
