Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation have recovered a significant consignment of Cannabis sativa during a raid in Lang’ata, Nairobi County.

Taking it to their X handle on Friday, May 8, 2026, the DCI confirmed that the operation followed intelligence reports linking individuals to an alleged drug trafficking network operating within the area. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, detectives stormed a house along Kitengela Road.

“A team of detectives drawn from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) at DCI Headquarters has recovered a substantial stash of cannabis sativa from a house in Lang’ata. The operation unfolded after intelligence revealed the involvement of individuals in the drug trafficking trade in the said area,” the DCI statement read in part.

The detectives further noted in their statement that upon arrival, officers were received by a male who appeared calm and cooperative. However, he later turned into a person of interest after attempting to mislead officers by pretending to search for keys before escaping through a back window, managing to evade arrest.

A female person of interest subsequently opened the gate, allowing officers access to the premises.

A thorough search of the house led to the recovery of seven sacks filled with cannabis sativa concealed in the servant quarters.

Detectives also confirmed to have seized two weighing scales and a roll of yellow Sellotape, believed to have been used in packaging the narcotics.

Inside the main house, officers recovered two carton boxes containing Rizla rolling papers, a mobile phone, and assorted documents suspected to be linked to a broader drug trafficking operation.

All the recovered exhibits were taken to the DCI Headquarters exhibits store for safekeeping as investigations continue. A manhunt has since been launched for the person of interest who escaped during the operation.

The DCI has urged members of the public to continue sharing information anonymously through the Fichua Kwa DCI initiative.
