Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday, August 5, 2023, paid Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni a courtesy visit.

In a statement, the former Head of State’s office disclosed that Uhuru had travelled to Uganda as the facilitator for peace talks in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

During his meeting with Museveni, Uhuru briefed the Ugandan Head of State about the ongoing peace process in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The former President had been accompanied by Ambassador Macharia Kamau, Brigadier (Rtd) Elijah Mwanyika, and Uganda’s minister of State for Foreign Affairs, John Mulimba.

“Former Head of State and Facilitator of the EAC – led Nairobi Peace Process, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta earlier today, paid a courtesy call on President Kaguta Museveni of Uganda at State House, Entebbe. Besides the security situation in the East African Community (EAC) region, the two leaders deliberated on the ongoing Peace Processes geared towards the realization of a lasting peace and stability in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“Also present at the meeting were; Hon. John Mulimba, Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Affairs, Amb. Macharia Kamau and Brigadier (Rtd) Elijah Mwanyika,” the statement read in parts.

Uhuru was appointed as peace envoy to conflicted regions in Africa by President William Ruto.

Speaking during the appointment of his former boss, Ruto lauded Uhuru for steering peace initiatives across Ethiopia and the Great Lakes Region.

“On the peace initiatives in our region including both in Ethiopia and Great Lakes Region, I have asked my elder brother President Uhuru Kenyatta who has done commendable engagement with those regions and he has graciously agreed to continue chairing those discussions on behalf of the people of Kenya,” Ruto said at the time.
