United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party Secretary General Hassan Omar on Monday, April 7, 2025, held a meeting with the new China Embassy counsellor to Kenya Sun Yinan.

The ruling party in a statement shared via social media stated that Yinan had paid a courtesy call on Senator Omar at the party headquarters, Hustler Plaza.

The ruling party went ahead to reveal some of the details of Omar and Yinan’s meeting.

The upcoming visit of the UDA Party delegation to China is among the issues that were discussed.

“New China Embassy Counsellor to Kenya Mr. Sun Yinan paid a courtesy call on UDA Party Secretary General Sen. Hassan Omar Hassan at the party headquarters, Hustler Plaza. Yinan, who was on his first day of his assignment, discussed with Sen. Omar several issues, among them the upcoming visit of the UDA Party delegation to China,” UDA stated.

Party-to-party relationships

According to UDA, Yinan, who has replaced Wang Jianqiang, who left early this year, also explored with Omar the importance of party-to-party relationships between the President William Ruto-led party and the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC).

“Following strong ties between the UDA Party and the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC), Sen Hassan and Yinan also explored the importance of party-to-party relationships, among other issues. Yinan replaces Wang Jianqiang, who left early this year after seeing through a stronger partnership between UDA and CPC,” UDA’s statement read.

Leadership academy

In November 2024, UDA announced plans to partner with the CPC in setting up a leadership academy.

The announcement followed bilateral talks that were held between the visiting CPC delegation led by Li Xi and the UDA leadership on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the UDA party headquarters at Hustler Plaza in Kilimani, Nairobi.

UDA said the two parties sought to enhance their collaboration on areas of mutual interest.

“Visiting CPC delegation led by H.E. Li Xi held bilateral talks with UDA Party leadership as the two parties sought to enhance their collaboration on areas of mutual interest. The CPC leader undertook to partner with UDA, especially on setting up a Leadership Academy, during the bilateral talks between the leaders from the two political outfits,” the statement reads in part.

UDA was led in the bilateral talks by the party chairperson, Embu County Governor Cecily Mbarire, and Secretary General Hassan Omar.

Members of the UDA’s National Executive Committee, National Election Board, and other party organs attended the discussions.
