Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya has officially launched the 2025 Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment drive.

Speaking at the KDF Headquarters in Nairobi on October 13, 2025, she emphasised a transparent, fair, and corruption-free process.

“We are flagging off this exercise with a clear message: the Kenya Defence Forces recruitment is free, fair, and open to all eligible Kenyans. Any form of bribery or canvassing will be met with arrest and prosecution,” Tuya stated, addressing past irregularities and underscoring the government’s commitment to accountability.

Measures to ensure a fair process

Tuya revealed that the Ministry of Defence had received reports of fraudsters impersonating KDF officials using fake uniforms and counterfeit documents.

To counter these threats, she outlined official communication channels, noting, “Only recruitment notices published through the Ministry of Defence website (mod.go.ke), KDF’s verified social media accounts, and national newspapers are considered valid.” She warned applicants against trusting unverified sources, including WhatsApp forwards and social media posts.

The recruitment process combines online and physical applications. Online applications for General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets, Specialist Officers, and Tradesmen/women are available via recruit.mod.go.ke, while physical recruitment for General Duty Recruits and Defence Forces Constables will occur at designated centers nationwide.

Shortlisted online candidates will be published in national newspapers between October 21–24. Tuya stressed that no payment is required at any stage, reinforcing, “The Kenya Defence Forces recruitment is free.”

Age limits vary by role, with GSO Cadets and General Duty Recruits aged 18–26, Specialist Officers and Tradesmen/women up to 30, and Chaplains and Imams up to 39.

Female applicants must not be pregnant during recruitment or training.

Academic qualifications differ by position. Specialist Officers must hold relevant degrees and professional registration. General Duty Recruits require a KCSE D (Plain), and Tradesmen/women need a D+ plus two years of registered professional experience.

“KDF recruitment is free, open and transparent. Any attempt to influence the process either by the parents, guardians or candidates will result in automatic disqualification and prosecution. The integrity of the process is non-negotiable,” she noted.
