Bomet crackdown

The Nairobi incident came just a day after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Bomet County had arrested a person of interest who was captured in a vehicle carrying some 1600 rolls of cannabis sativa following an intelligence-led operation.

Taking it to their X handle on Sunday, May 31, 2026, the detectives have confirmed that the police action took place on the Silibwet-Bomet Road when the officers spotted a Toyota Succeed car believed to have been transporting narcotic drugs.

“Detectives drawn from DCI Bomet have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and recovered eight (8) bags containing approximately one thousand six hundred (1,600) rolls of cannabis sativa (bhang) during an intelligence-led operation within Bomet County,” DCI noted in a statement.

The DCI has noted that the driver refused to halt and raced off towards Kapsimotwa Shopping Centre, setting up a high-speed chase. The pursuit ended when the car drove into a small area of the road, prompting the driver to make a few sharp turns and the passengers to exit and run away.
