Court stops State from terminating medics earnings
It was a reprieve for health workers after the Employment and Labour Relations on Tuesday stopped the government from terminating the payment of non-practice allowances.
In her ruling, the court stopped the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) from reviewing, reducing or removing non-practice allowance for public sector workers.
Justice Byram Ongaya halted the SRC’s proposal pending the hearing and determination of the case filed by the Vice-Chairman of Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU), Dr Kahura Mundia. Justice Ongaya also stopped the Public Service Commission (PSC) from reviewing, reducing or removing non-practice allowances for doctors, nurses and other workers in the medical sector.
He directed the matter to be heard on June 27, 2023 and ordered KMPDU to serve all parties by close of Tuesday.
