Challenge thrown at John Cox minutes after nomination as Registrar of Political Parties

The new registrar of political parties nominee, John Cox Lorionokou, has been challenged to demonstrate the virtue of patriotism and courage in his new role.

In a statement shared on his X page on Friday, August 15, 2025, Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto, while lauding Lorionokou’s nomination as a proud moment for the Pokot community, urged the nominee to accept his nomination with commitment.

Following his nomination by President William Ruto this Friday, August 15, 2025, Lorionokou now awaits the approval by the National Assembly before he takes the oath of office.

“Big congratulations to our very own son of the soil, John Cox Lorionokou, on your nomination by President William Ruto as the Registrar of Political Parties! Pokot is proud, Kenya is watching now. Go serve with courage, integrity, and unstoppable patriotism!

His nomination sparked a rousing reception from the larger Pokot community, as leaders from the region hailed his recognition.

Former West Pokot Governor John Lonyang’apuo lauded President Ruto for nominating Lorionokou as the new registrar of political parties.

In a statement on Friday, August 15, 2025, shortly after the announcement was made, Lonyang’apuo stated that the Pokot nation was happy and grateful for the nomination.

“Congratulations, John Cox Lorionokou, on your nomination to fill the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties. One more from the Land of Hidden Treasures. I wish to thank President William Ruto for this nomination. As a community, we are happy and grateful,” Lonyang’apuo said.

Other leaders who lauded the Lorionokou included Kacheliba MP Titus Lotee, who welcomed the nomination, noting that such an honour had never visited Kacheliba constituency.

“I will wish to congratulate my friend, classmate, and areamate John Cox Lorionokou for the much-deserved appointment as the registrar of Political Parties. This kind of appointment has never visited Kacheliba constituency before, and it is proof of dedication, hard work, and the favour of God,” Lotee said.

“Equally, I wish to congratulate and thank William Ruto for trusting us with such a huge task. Sir, when tasked, we always deliver.”

If approved, he will succeed Anne Nderitu at the helm of the register of political parties. Nderitu left the position following her appointment as a commissioner of the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)
