Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has accused President Ruto of inciting ethnic violence ahead of the 2027 general elections so that there can be election rigging by causing the chaos.

Taking to his social media on Sunday, January,25,2026, Boniface has said that Ruto has turned into the attacks in churches in his attempt to intimidate the DCP party leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has in the recent past become his fearless critic, even though the two sought for office together and were best friends and in the UDA party together.

“It is very clear that Ruto does not want peaceful elections in 2027. He wants to instigate tribal clashes so that he can rig the votes. William Ruto faced three charges of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court related to the 2007–2008 post-election violence. Those charges included murder, forcible transfer of population, and persecution. One reason he was charged at The Hague was the accusation that he was involved in burning women and children in a church in Kiambaa. Ruto is at it again, attacking a church as he tries to intimidate Rigathi Gachagua, his former Deputy President and once his best friend in UDA,” remarked Boniface.

Warning for post-election violence

The human rights activist and a presidential hopeful for the upcoming general elections has said that the reason Ruto was charged at the International Criminal Court post the 2007 General Elections was the accusation of an attack on churches. Mwangi has mentioned the recent attack on churches as a deliberate move to instigate tribal divisions and could lead to a repeat of post-election violence.

Condemning the violence that occurred at Witima ACK church in Othaya constituency in Nyeri county, where police used teargas to disperse congregants on Sunday, January 25, 2026, Boniface has said that any form of violence should be stopped by all means and those accountable should be held accountable. He has also warned that should the chaos continue, the citizens could be forced to organise for their own protection, calling on President Ruto to be on the lookout for anarchy.

“Violence must stop, and those goons must be arrested before Kenyans start organising their own Citizen Defence Forces to counter them. Since Kenyans do not own police stations, and the goons are working with Ruto’s police, any goons who are caught will definitely be killed,” added Boniface.
