Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has commenced nationwide tours to popularise his 2027 presidential bid while appealing for financial support to fund his campaign for the next general election.

Taking to X on Sunday, November 9, 2025, Mwangi urged the electorate to consider him at the ballot, stating that he is not a ‘career politician’ but a common Kenyan citizen seeking to serve the nation in the highest office of the land.

Wooing voters

”I have always believed that it is our collective responsibility to leave society better than we found it, hence dedicating my life to working with other like-minded people who try to improve our condition for the common good,” Mwangi said.

Born in Taita Taveta and raised in Nyeri and Nairobi, Boniface Mwangi added that, like most Kenyans, he has struggled to survive. Mwangi has also cited his past challenges growing up as a student, among them being expelled from school at the age of 14, on the orders of a Cabinet Minister, for exposing how his classmates were being exploited, as the reason the electorate should consider his candidacy.

The youthful activist has also revealed that his family was against his interest in leading the country come 2027.

”When I told my family I wanted to run for the presidency, my son Nate wept, “Dad, don’t do it. They will kill you.” He knows about some of the many death threats I have received, as well as the arrests, beatings, torture, being shot, and the surgeries I’ve endured for standing up to power.”

“I understand his fears, but I must run, nonetheless, because my love for him and his generation overrides my own apprehension. In the end, the good in our hearts and minds must, and will, trump the corruption, greed, and murderous inclinations of our country’s enemies – many of whom are in power,” Mwangi added.

”I have offered my candidacy because I believe we can win. It won’t be my victory, but our victory. In 2022, eight million Kenyans who were registered to vote shunned the ballot. They didn’t think there was anyone worth voting for, and so they stayed away. We have another 10 million unregistered Gen Z voters,” he said.

Mwangi has argued that the country’s young population needs to be inspired to register as voters and to vote when the time comes, because they have a real opportunity to determine their future.

Financial boost

”I have commenced listening tours to engage with Kenyans across all the counties to hear their ideas, understand their unique challenges, and collectively build our winning strategy. Together, we will produce ‘The People’s Manifesto’, Mwangi noted.

He has also appealed to Kenyans for financial support amid the tours. ”I implore you to contribute to my campaign to ensure that we can make this possible. If Kenya were a safe country, I could move around with just a driver, but because of hired goons, crime, and state-directed violence, I’m forced to have a security and media team travelling with me. Help me; keep me safe as I do my meet-the-people tours,” Mwangi appealed.
