Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has expressed his condolences to the Odinga family following the passing of Beryl Odinga, urging them to remain strong after the double tragedy.

Speaking during Beryl Odinga’s requiem mass in Nairobi on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, where family members and leaders gathered to pay their respects, Sifuna acknowledged the immense grief the family has endured.

Just months ago, the family lost former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and weeks later, they lost another member of the family: he likened their ordeal to the biblical story of Job, who faced similar loss and went through immense suffering yet triumphed at the end.

“I was reminded of the book of Job, and I was trying to generate something through the AI to summarise what the story of the book of Job was about. And it has shown me that our circumstances are not the ones that determine or dictate our relationship with God,” Sifuna stated.

Sifuna highlighted that personal circumstances do not determine or dictate one’s relationship with God and emphasised the importance of faith even when the reasons behind suffering are unclear.

He encouraged the Odinga family to hold on to hope and assured them that support from both the community and political circles remains steadfast.

He further stressed that, just like the job, the family had done nothing wrong to deserve such a loss and that the love and care of the people of Nairobi, as well as the ODM Party, continue to stand with them during this difficult time.

The senator underscored that even amid deep sorrow, the presence of faith, resilience, and communal support can provide comfort and strength.

“So, for the Odinga family, you have had a very difficult year, a very difficult last two months. We will be there for you; we will be there with you.  Even when we don’t understand the why, there is nothing wrong you have done, and I am sure, although I may not have the authority of the priest, God still loves you, and God still loves the entire family,” Sifuna said
