‘Iba tu pesa lakini usinyanyase watu’- Babu Owino fires at Sakaja over viral video
Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has issued a stern warning to Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja following a viral video showing a driver being handcuffed inside a lorry by County Askaris colloquially known as kanjos.
In the video shared by Babu, the distraught driver claims he was handcuffed for blocking the road.
Obstruction
However, the driver insisted that he did not block the road but was rather obstructed by vehicles ahead of him.
“Sasa kazi hakuna, halafu wakati nimepata kazi ndio nawekwa pingu at nimefunga barabara an gari ilikuwa mbele yangu ndio ilikuwa imefunga barabara. Mimi Na kanjo walikuwa hapa na walikuwa wameongea na wameelewana. Mwingine anaitwa Chief akakuja akanieka pingu.
“(Work is scarce, and just when I found a job, I was handcuffed for supposedly blocking the road, yet it was the vehicle in front of me that had blocked the road. The county askaris were here, they spoke to me, and we reached an understanding. But there is one referred to as chief who handcuffed me),” the driver explained.
Reacting to the incident, Owino expressed his dismay in the video and directed a message to Sakaja, emphasizing that although he may engage in other activities, he should refrain from harassing people.
“Wamadimplez Sakaja hii Nairobi hauwezani nayo. Iba tu pesa lakini usinyanyase Watu hivi. (Sakaja, this Nairobi, you cannot handle it. You may steal money, but do not oppress people like this.) he stated.
Babu has been critical of Sakaja for a long time, early this year he roasted the Nairobi governor over flooded roads in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), after a heavy downpour on January 5, 2024, turned his “lazima i-work” slogan against him.
Through his official X account, the lawmaker taunted Sakaja’s stunts saying despite the County Government assuring city residents of measures to mitigate the negative effects of rains, the capital city, had turned into a ‘sea’ following a sudden downpour.
