Aukot questions bus passengers’ silence after Jirongo’s accident
By Mabonga Makhanu, December 17, 2025Former presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot has questioned the silence of the passengers who were aboard a Climax Coach bus to Busia before the head-on collision with former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo’s car in Karai on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
In a statement posted on his social media handles on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Ekuru said there are many grey areas and gaps surrounding the death of his friend Cyrus, demanding that heads must roll.
He questioned how, in the age of social media, where Kenyans are actively on various platforms, none of the passengers managed to record the accident or come out to tell his or her story of how the accident happened.

According to him, only the driver has spoken, yet the account given by the driver does not add up. He termed the driver’s testimony before the media on the day of the incident as choreographed.
He further demanded answers, stating that it is a must that the questions lingering in people’s minds be answered and that no excuses should be given.

“Kenyans are active on social media, and they can record anything. But 65 people on a bus are now ghostly, and none witnessed the accident that killed CJ, except for what is clearly a choreographed interview from a ‘Kithinji’. The truth about this death is a must. Sio tafadhali.”
Elsewhere, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has also questioned gaps around Cyrus Jirongo’s death.
Family demands

This comes at a time when family and friends are demanding answers over the death of the former Lugari MP. His friend and former Vihiga senator George Khaniri has demanded speedy investigations into the matter, with the family and friends vowing to initiate a separate private investigation agency to look into the incident.
The DCI has already obtained CCTV footage from the area of the incident, including the petrol station from which Jirongo emanated before colliding with the Climax Coach bus. The driver has also been released on bail and is set to report back to the station again on December 22, 2025.
Aukot mourning jirongo
Ekuru was the last person to interview Cyrus Jirongo during his popular show on the Alpha TV podcast.
Former Agriculture Minister Kipruto Arap Kirwa stated that Ekuru was visibly disturbed by the death of Cyrus. He said that during the funeral committee meeting organised at the home of the late, Ekuru appeared unsettled and even left the event without saying anything.
The late Cyrus Jirongo will be laid to rest in Lumakanda, beside his parents’ grave, on December 30, 2025.
