Murkomen’s security tour of Coast region
Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen is set to commence a week-long tour of the Coast region today to assess security operations and disaster preparedness measures.
The Cabinet Secretary will evaluate ongoing security operations targeting gangs, including the Panga Boys and Al Shabaab operatives.
Murkomen will visit Lamu, where Al Shabaab terrorists camped and lectured locals two weeks ago, and is expected to tour all six coastal counties.
During these visits, he is set to engage with leaders, regional and county security teams, National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), and peace committees to enhance security strategies.
“The CS and his team will also gauge the level of disaster preparedness in the face of rising climate-change-driven extreme weather conditions. He will also get feedback from wananchi on their satisfaction with citizen services,” the ministry’s communication team stated.
This tour follows Murkomen’s recent visits to Turkana, Baringo, Laikipia, Samburu, and Meru to address sporadic cases of cattle rustling.
Tributes for the late SC Pheroze Nowrojee
Tributes are expected to continue to pour in for Senior Counsel Pheroze Nowrojee, one of Kenya’s eminent legal minds, who passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025, in the US at the age of 84.
In a career spanning six decades, Nowrojee represented clients across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Seychelles, and was renowned for his involvement in Kenya’s democratic reforms.
Born in 1941 in Nairobi, he studied in India and London before being called to the Kenyan Bar in 1965 and later obtaining a Master of Laws from Yale University.
A prolific writer and dedicated human rights advocate, Nowrojee received numerous accolades including a Certificate of Recognition from the Maasai community and the Bernard Simons Memorial Award from the International Bar Association.

Nowrojee participated in four presidential election petitions, including being part of the legal team that successfully nullified President Kenyatta’s election victory in 2017.
He was also part of the Azimio la Umoja team that contested the 2022 general election.
“With his death, the nation has lost a brilliant legal mind who has made indelible positive contributions to the development of our vibrant democracy and human rights culture,” President Ruto said in his tribute.
“His passing marks the end of a historic era and leaves a gap that will be almost impossible to fill,” Opposition leader Raila Odinga wrote in his tribute.
