April 6, 2025: Top news events to look out for today

Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.
Reactions to Ruto’s Mt. Kenya
President William Ruto on Saturday, April 5, 2025, concluded his week-long development tour of the Mt. Kenya region.
The head of state ended his tour by traversing Nyeri and Kiambu Counties.
Despite President Ruto receiving a warm reception, there were several incidents in which some of his key allies, especially the National Assembly Majority Leader and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, were jeered and heckled.
As a result, the tour is expected to continue attracting mixed reactions, especially from the defiant political leaders from the region who failed to accompany the head of state.
FKF Premier League
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League action is set to continue with table toppers Kenya Police FC set to face bottom side Nairobi City Stars at Machakos Stadium as they chase their second consecutive win to maintain the top spot.
The law enforcers will, however, approach the match cautiously to avoid a potential banana skin.
The match kicks off at 1:00 pm and will be followed by another potential title decider between third-placed Gor Mahia and fourth-placed KCB FC from 4 pm.
Gor Mahia are yet to beat the Bankers in the last four matches. The last time K’Ogalo beat the Bankers was in the 2021/22 season, when they managed to beat them home and away—2-1 and 1-0. Last season, the fixture did not produce a winner, the first round clash ending in a 0-0 draw, the same as the second round contest.
Another match day 26 fixture will see Shabana welcome Bandari at Gusii Stadium as they seek to maintain their good home run with victory.
The Gusii side are sixth on the table, just one point ahead of the Mombasa outfit, and can climb to fourth spot with a win.
Struggling Murang’a Seal will be up against another relegation-threatened side, Bidco United, at Sportpesa Arena.
Shujaa vs. Spain
Kenya’s national rugby sevens team, Shujaa, will be playing against Spain at the Singapore Sevens.
Shujaa will be seeking a slot in the Singapore 7s finals.
On Saturday, April 5, the team delivered another spirited performance, edging out France 10-7 in a tightly contested Pool B clash.
The victory marked Shujaa’s second consecutive win in the sixth leg of the HSBC Sevens Series, following an earlier triumph over Ireland, which placed them in a strong position heading into the final pool match.

Politicians in churches
Politicians are expected to flock to different churches across the country as Easter approaches.
As per the norm, they are expected to take to the church pulpit to make various political remarks, given that this Sunday has come at the time President Ruto has just concluded his development tour of the Mt. Kenya region.
While some churches, such as the Catholic and the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), have taken a firm stance barring politicians from speaking in the church, several other churches have been offering them a chance to address the congregants.
