Easter celebrations

Kenyans are expected to continue travelling to different destinations to join their families and friends in celebrating the Easter holiday.

As they continue to travel, leaders have urged them to exercise caution while on the roads.

President William Ruto joined other leaders in sending a message of goodwill to Kenyans during the Easter holidays.

In his message on Friday, April 18, 2025, Ruto cautioned Kenyans on the road during the holidays to be careful to prevent road accidents.

“Please be safe on the roads and be blessed. To all families, all the friends and every Kenyan, Happy Easter,” Ruto stated.

In a twist of events, Ruto decided to share this year’s Easter message through TikTok.

Catholic Archbishop Martin Kivuva of the Mombasa Holy Ghost Cathedral, in his Good Friday message, also urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads to prevent accidents.

FKF Premier League

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League action is set to continue on Saturday, April 19, with three games lined up.

Gor Mahia will be hosted by Sofapaka at Dandora Stadium at 3:00 pm, while Mara Sugar and KCB will battle at Awendo Stadium at 2:00 pm.

Bandari are set to play Kakamega Homeboyz in the other match on Saturday, scheduled to kick off at 3:00 pm at Mbaraki Stadium.

Reactions to Matiang’i’s arrival

The arrival into the country of the Jubilee Party’s preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, Fred Matiang’i, on Thursday, April 17, 2025, has continued to attract mixed reactions.

Matiang’i, who was received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by a host of leaders, had been away from the country even as the 2027 politics revolved around his candidacy.

Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni remarked that “It’s all systems go,” as he received the former firebrand Interior Cabinet Secretary at the airport.

Matiang’i, who is among the candidates that have thrown themselves into the 2027 presidential contest, has continued to spark reactions online, with a section of Kenyans rallying for his support, while others held a contrary opinion.

The discussion around Matiang’i’s presidential candidature is expected to continue, with those opposed to his ambition arguing that there are several evils he committed while serving as the interior minister, and those supporting him arguing that he is the most favoured candidate to unseat President William Ruto.
